Parent of a 1st Grader: Decoding and Spelling ProgramOur son was in the first grade and was struggling. Nearly two months into the school year, we found out that he was not reading at all, including simple words like "mop." After he started meeting with Kevin, the improvement was dramatic and immediate. Kevin's method of instruction was much better suited to the way E learned and he progressed steadily and at a rapid rate. For that school year, we ended up homeschooling our son. Kevin was his reading tutor throughout the year. When E returned to school the following year, he placed into the highest reading group and had an excellent year.
Also, E can be somewhat of a challenge. He is quite spirited and has a great deal of trouble focusing and sitting still. Kevin was outstanding at overcoming all obstacles with E. We have recommended Kevin to friends and continue to do so! Parent of a 2nd Grader: Decoding and Spelling ProgramDespite the best efforts of her school and parental support at home, our daughter was reading below grade level. This was affecting her self-confidence. She began to fall behind in other subjects as well. We decided to try a reading tutor and were so fortunate to find Kevin. Our daughter really enjoyed working with him, and she looked forward to her tutoring sessions.
The tutoring was individualized to her particular needs. With his help, she moved up 2 reading group levels at school and is easily reading on grade level now. She even won the "Most Improved Reader" award for her class at the end of the year. We highly recommend Finch Tutoring. |

Thank you for everything you have done for our family. You taught him to read - which by itself is a huge accomplishment. You were also an incredible support for me. You helped with IEPs, meetings with teachers, testing and understanding the dyslexia diagnosis. You were with us from the beginning and always kept us focused in the right direction. You have been the one constant in his life that we could count on without question.
Parent of a 5th Grader: Study Skills Program
We can't thank you enough for all of your help! You truly changed the way that she studies and learns. Not only did you help her, but you also taught me. You showed us both a better way for her to learn and remember her material. You gave us the tools we needed to in turn "teach" her teachers this year. She is really doing great right now. You truly helped her shine!
Parent of a 3rd Grader: Decoding and Spelling Program
My son was considered a non-reader when he began working with Kevin. His academic self-esteem was shot. Working with Kevin gave my son a place to shine, while also slowly and consistently building his skills. After a little more than a year, my son was reading on grade level. We often curl up with a good book together, something I never thought we would be able to do. As an educator with 11 years experience, I recognize the effectiveness of Kevin's teaching methods. He clearly explained "the rules" of language to my son who seemed so befuddled by words.
As a mother I appreciated the relationship that Kevin developed with my son. There was a true sense of respect and mutual appreciation between the two of them as if they were working together to tackle the mysteries of the English language.

Our 8 year old son was a struggling, emerging reader, and the tasks of decoding, sounding out new words, and reading words in isolation were especially difficult for him. Finch Tutoring was recommended to us by one of our son's teachers. Her own son had experienced personal success in reading by working with Kevin. The no-frills program Kevin implemented with our son was highly structured and methodical. It allowed our son to build a foundation and advance in a very intentional progression.
After 18 months of weekly sessions and related practice at home, he had improved to a reading level of 3.6 and grade level word list and fluency scores. From an interpersonal perspective, Kevin was engaging and enthusiastic. He went out of his way to build our son's confidence around his growing abilities and took care to celebrate his success. We would highly recommend him.
